The Paseo Colon Costa Rica is a upper scale sector of San Jose which is just west of El Centro. It is a a strip of hotels, restaurants, and shopping that has recently experienced somewhat of a renaissance. While newer infrastructure has arrived, it still retains a lot of the architecture from the Spanish colonial era. It is also very centrally located. If you are staying in San Jose, it provides easy access to all the attractions of San Jose, but also is within walking distance to La Sabana and within easy driving distance to the western suburbs such as Escazu, Santana and Rohrmoser.
Hotels in Paseo Colon
If you want to stay in Paseo Colon, there are hotels to match every need. If you are a backpacker and looking for very economical digs, you can stay at Hostel Casa Colon. The average nightly rates are at $15 and the rooms are surprisingly nice. If you are looking for boutique hotel, the Parque del Lago Boutique Hotel is a very nice hotel and is running a special right now at just $72 per night. This is a discount from the normal price of $120 nightly rate and puts you right at the footstep of La Sabana park. If you are looking for a more upscale stay, you can try the Park Inn By Radisson, which is brand new to Costa Rica. Bear in mind, the Park In is a few blocks south of Paseo Colon and in the hospital district which is not quite as safe. However, any area around Paseo Colon is safe for walking during the day. At night, you should absolutely use taxis.
Nightlife in Paseo Colon
Paseo Colon Costa Rica has it’s own nightlife which includes restaurants, bars, upscale discos and night clubs. Concerning night clubs, remember these are strip bars in Costa Rica, which is not quite the equivalent in North America. You are also a short taxi ride to the Gringo Gulch, the Zona Roja and San Jose El Centro. Staying in Paseo Colon provides you access to the darker side, and the ability to escape it all. The Elite Night club is a show bar which is comparably expensive adult entertainment.
